Adjustable force gas springs come pre-set to the maximum force the gas spring is rated to. There is a release valve at the end of the spring which allows gas to be vented out of the spring, lowering it’s force

When you purchase adjustable force gas springs they come pressurised to their maximum force which allows you to then gradually release pressure with an Allen key from the neck of the gas springs via the grub screw.
